
Ami Capen is a video editor, producer and storyteller based in Oakland, California. She creates and collaborates on thought-provoking films and social media content exploring food, art, technology, environmental and social issues.
Ami has 15 years of experience producing/editing marketing and branded content for clients like Adobe, Google, YouTube, Filemaker, E&J Gallo Winery and Sutter Health. She has performed multiple roles on documentaries and tv series, including producing, editing and post-production supervising.
Ami produced/directed The Adobe Illustrator Story and edited for PBS's Food Forward series (2014). She has credits on National Geographic Explorer's How to Build an Ancient Man (2011), Shiram Mama/Mama Yucca (2008), National Geographic’s Strange Days on Planet Earth (2005), and In the Light of Reverence (2001).
Ami’s film career path began at U.C. Berkeley, where she studied film, ethnic studies and sociology, earning a B.A. in the Interdisciplinary Field Major (ISF). Upon graduating, she worked for 2 years with renowned filmmaker Les Blank, camera assisting on All in This Tea (2007). Since then, she has worked in France, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Mexico, the Caribbean and all over the United States. She thrives off creative collaboration, and brings her storytelling skills to every project.
